Step 12: You can lock the sketch layer by clicking this little icon here so you will know the layer is locked by the padlock sign next to it. Well, locking layer means that you can’t move it anymore..so it makes easy when you are painting and working on other layers. The sketch layer is just a reference for your coloring.
Step 13: We can begin shading. Using the large brush, do some general shading for the character clothing. You don’t have too over detail everything for now. I just add some basic detail for my character at this step. Using a smaller brush, I begin adding smaller paint strokes to add detail and to blend the colors together…then I took a smaller brush and a darker opacity.
Step 14: Now we are going to begin adding some details. Now change the file size as 2500×3444 . Resolution must be 300. Click IMAGE-> IMAGE SIZE. To resize an image in Photoshop, the first thing you need to do is go up to the Image menu at the top of the screen and select “Image Size” from the list of options. This will bring up the Image Size dialog box, as shown below:
Step 15: Here I gave highlights to her hair…you can see how it is not so detailed for now. This steps shows the general idea of how the character’s hair will be We are going to detail the character’s eyes too. Reminding; start with a new layer for the details. Always pay attention to lighting direction.
Step 16: I’m adding some more colours. Here take a look at the character painting. Her eyes began to look clear at this step. First I paint her one eye and then when I finished detailing the eye I’ll copy it and paste for another. Try to mix the color of the shadows and the lighting.
Step 17: I have started to work on detail for her hair here. Apply some shadows, I’ll be using a brush that is not too small because it is not time for the final details. Also erase some pleaces where it ooks unnatural and blend it using Blur Tool. Keep in mind the direction of the hair is falling…After running through a few possibilities, I decided on the one shown. . And for the shadow you shall use the same color but 50% will do good . Now you can play with more softness, and it gives a feeling of realism. Try not to lift your pen too much. Too many stroke will destroy the smooth gradient effect which we are trying to archieve.
Step 18: We are now beggining to detail the face. A reminding; pay attention to your layers and make sure they do not clash with the body . You can lock or hide all the layers except the hair layer. I use different layers for each part of the body…I hide all the other layers and I lock th sketch layer. it is more easier that way to keep them seperated… so you don’t have to erase when you go over a line. Here I have added some more stronger highlights to her hair and now paint some little details.
