Step 1: Drawing is the hardest part of creating an illustration in my opinion, coloring and creating the atmophere is fairly simple with the right tools like Photoshop and other Adobe products. Luckily for you drawing is a skill that can be learned, some are certainly born with a knack for drawing but like all talents, methods exist that methodically will give you a taste of how drawing your own illustrations feels like. I suggest you have a doodle pad where you let your creativity flow then pick something you believe is worth digitalize. This painting is going to be done totally in Photoshop CS2. In this tutorial I will try to describe the method that I followed from the sketch till the fully detailed phase. I used simple brushes, nothing unusual. I hope these steps will help you a lot :). I started with some quick sketches about the main idea. And here is the simple sketch about my character. I’m sure the one who know not drawings can manage draw some little quick sketches like this.
Step 2: Finding sources of inspiration for your drawings isn’t hard, you might have a favorite childhood character, an over stimulated imagination, sometimes going for a walk helps me clear my thoughts and find some little detail in nature that might seem trite to passer-byers by in the right context, environment or atmosphere can become a wonderful synthesis of fantasy with reality. Let’s start with opening a new document of around 900 pixels by 810 pixels with a resolution of 72px/inch. Create a new layer and draw a sketch like I did. Resolution must be 72 for now. Later you need to make it bigger to add painting details. But not now. When you drew this picture you don’t need to have a very strong hardware.
Step 3: For my character I am going to use only s standart brushes with some different pen pressure settings. Let me show how I arrange my brush. First select the Brush Tool and then Right Click on the canvas.
Step 4: From Window option select Brushes.
Step 5: A new window will open to you. Here as you see there are lots of options on the left. Then from panel choose “Other Dynamics” And choose “Pen Pressure” And also you can see the brush under panel. make the numbers as seen. Under of the panel you must have noticed how different strokes it has now.
Step 6: Now try your brush. See how soft it is and make some strokes with your new brush settings. You see the soft strokes of the brush and there is nothing fancy about brushes since some of you wondered.
