In this tutorial I will be using Adobe Photoshop and a Wacom Tablet  to create the finished 2d painting. You can use Corel Painter if you want. I will also be using techniques and methods that I feel most comfortable with when coloring. I suggest that after following this tutorial, you find out what works best for you :D   Well, about carton characters;  as you know, everybody likes cartoon characters.  They make us happy and keep our mind tension-free.  So I present here a beautiful and mind-blowing Cartoon Illustration Tutorial for you.  Cartoon-character drawing involves a lot of techniques and styles, whether it is for one-tone characters or colorful multi-layered ones.  And about my other tutorials;  as you see,  some are intermediate level and some are advanced tutorials that include coloring processing, character sketching, pen tool tricks for tracing line art sketches, shapes processing,  and much more.  For my other works please visit my website http://www.3d2dizayn.com/ Should you have any questions or comments, please contact me at: 3d2dizayn@gmail.com

How to Paint a Story Book Character in Adobe Photoshop

Preview of Final Results

Step 1: The concept  is about a little cartoon girl character who is surprised  by a green butterfly.  While walking on the park I saw a very cute little girl who is looking to a butterfly and smile to it.  She was looking so cute and innocent  with that colorful butterfly and a handful flowers on her little hands.  She was really really  so cute :) so I decide to make a painting work about her and her little friend.  When I went home I start this illustration. I will make this illustration for some story books or some cards.  They can use this cute girl in a story book I’m sure. I will start from a rough sketch  and take the sketch for further color illustration.  This character painting tutorial is basically for tablet users. if you don’t have one   either it will take you 10 times longer. You must have a Tablet for to get a good result like I did.  I always start off with a sketch for my concept work.  The background and the sketch both have their own layers.

Step 2: As a start I used around about a 1000x1378  pixel canvas.  And furthermore, I work on a very wide format so that I can work on details. Create a wide high DPI resolution image, like you see on this one.

Step 3: Now I’ll fill my document with something different than white . White color is too bright and not good for starting.  #867e71 is  good for now.

Step 4: Here is the brush that I’m using to create my character.  I use a standart  Airbrush Pen Opacity Flow. And we can arrange it’s opacity set to pen pressure if we want. Start by selecting the Brush tool (B) then using a standard  brush such as the one shown below.8-Inch Pen TabletAuri Tablet PC , Pen tablet with USB connection, levels of pressure-sensitivity,digital painting,texture,render,anima,2d characters

Step 5: After arrranging the file size  I set up the basic colours that I thought  I would possibly use for the sketch Before I start with the composition, I choose the colours (background and character). And here are my colors used for this artwork.  Later on maybe I want to enrich my palette and add more colours.  My colour choices depends upon on the image and subject.  Here I choose  a bright blue for the sky.  And other colours are for the character colour. Next step will be the coloring of the character.

Step 6: After the sketching was done, I started to try some colours for the background. I created a layer behind the sketch layer and filled it roughly with my chosen basic colours . Here I separated 4 layers.  I always work the same way when creating an illustration.  For the character I started by painting  the general lines and giving them dimensions.  The light is from a cloudy and a little daylight, so there wouldn’t be  a clear shining light, but some vivid colours . I then start work on the face and the hair. At this step I can start roughing in values.

I love paint-by-number projects. I actually frame them and hang them up. This is a pretty still life – hours of relaxation. Put on music and daub away. Have no natural skill as artest – so this makes me happy.

I know this if off topic but I’m looking into starting my own weblog and was wondering what all is required to get setup? I’m assuming having a blog like yours would cost a pretty penny? I’m not very internet savvy so I’m not 100% sure. Any suggestions or advice would be greatly appreciated. Cheers
