In this tutorial, we will make a diary in Zbrush. I will show you how to take the basic shape from 3ds max and refine it in Zbrush. If you have anything to add, please write a comment! Here is our finished diary.
Step 1: Now firstly we will model the cover for our diary. For that create a Box. Its dimensions is not so important. May be you want to find yourself a reference. There are some nice websites that have lots of old medieval things. So the most important thing when importing an object for Zbrush is the placement of the edges. The edges will effect to the Normal Maps if you generate them in Zbrush. Otherwise the Normal Map will mess up and you will wonder what the hell is happening. So we will see how to place our edges first….
Step 2: Here is our first edges. Use Connect tool to add these edges. That is enough for now.
Step 3: Now select these faces and delete them to make a hole.
Step 4: Use the Bridge tool to fill in the gaps. First select the Border sub-object level then click Bridge tool. Fill top, bottom and side gaps in this way.
Step 5: After that use Connect tool to add the side edges as I did.
Step 6: And here I finished adding the edges. The important ones are the side ones. Now we can import the mesh. As always use Reset XForm any model that will go to Zbrush.
Step 7: In Zbrush always use Store Morph Target option, then divide your model. We get this in Zbrush to give it a generic shape not for detailing. Divide it 2 or 3 times and shape it.
